We are all very good at planning our holidays, from what to pack to where to eat and what activities to partake in. However, it is easy for us not to prepare properly for a holiday when we bring our dogs.

Dogs are man’s best friend and part of our families, so dog-friendly holidays are becoming increasingly popular.

To ensure you have a stress-free holiday with your furry friend this year, we have written a guide about preparing for your dog-friendly holiday including everything from supplies to planning your trips.

Tips For Preparing for a Dog-Friendly Holiday

– Check that your accommodation is dog-friendly

Let’s start with the basics – ensuring that the accommodation you are booking is dog-friendly.

It’s amazing to see there are lots of dog-friendly accommodation options throughout the UK and Ireland now, but there are still plenty of venues that strictly don’t allow pets.

If the property’s website doesn’t clearly state it is pet-friendly then it is best to contact the owner to ask.

Also, check for enough space inside and outside for your dog and yourself to feel comfortable during your stay.

– Make sure you have all your doggie supplies

  • Leads and harnesses
  • Collar
  • Dog food
  • Treats
  • Food and water bowls
  • Bed
  • Towels
  • Toys
  • Poop bags

Who knew you would need to pack so many supplies for your dog? Well, you do, so don’t say you weren’t warned if you arrive without some of these!

We are big supporters of sustainable living and protecting our environment at Blessingbourne so we want to stress the importance of bringing poop bags.

No doubt you will be going on lots of lovely walks with your dog and it is important to clean up after them to leave our outdoors looking beautiful and a safe place for everyone.

– Plan your journey to your holiday destination

Before you leave, check how long the journey is to your destination and plan some stops for your dog to get out for fresh air and to use the toilet.

Also, ensure that your dog is good at long journeys, doesn’t suffer car sickness and you bring some water and treats along.

– Plan your trips while on holiday

Your trips and activities should revolve around your pet whenever you bring them on holiday. It’s not fair to bring them and then leave them home alone!

Research pet-friendly cafes and bars, plan to visit sightseeing spots where dogs are welcome and don’t plan any full-day adventures that would mean your furry friend is left alone.

– Check for local pet stores online

Even the best prepared amongst us can forget to pack something. Or, maybe you run out of food or treats. By knowing where your closest pet store is you can feel assured that whatever happens, you can stock up somewhere nearby.

You Should Now Be Ready for Your Dog-Friendly Holiday!

If you remember all of the above while planning your break you should be set for a stress-free, fun-filled adventure. Have we missed anything? If so, let us know!
